Palm Springs, CA — We are excited to announce that Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter has officially changed its name to Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies. This change marks a significant step in our organization’s growth and reflects our broader vision to enhance animal welfare throughout the Coachella Valley.
While we continue to proudly operate the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, this name change represents our commitment to expanding our services beyond the shelter walls. We are now focused on a wider arrayof animal care initiatives, including the Desert Wildlife Center in Indio scheduled to open in Spring2025. The Desert Wildlife Center will serve as a safe refuge for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in need of medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Additionally, we are in the final negotiation stage with the City of Desert Hot Springs to open the Desert Community Animal Center later this Spring. This facility was formerly operated by the Humane Society of the Desert and has been shuttered since 2018. The Center will provide animal care services to pets and pet owners from Desert Hot Springs and throughout the Coachella Valley, including basic animal care, wellness visits, vaccinations, public spay/neuter clinics, pet food bank, TNR (trap/neuter/return for community cats), and others as needed.
At Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies, we believe every animal deserves a loving, safe, and healthy environment where they can thrive. The new name embodies our dedication to this belief and our determination to extend our work throughout the Coachella Valley. The Desert Wildlife Center is only the beginning of what we hope will be a series of impactful initiatives to improve the lives of all animals in our region.
“Our new name reflects our deep commitment to serving animals across the valley, not just within the shelter,” said Tim Watts, Board Chair of Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies. “With this name change, we are embracing a broader mission and opening the door to future projects that will expand and strengthen our work in animal advocacy and care. We look forward to continuing this journey with the incredible support of our community, as we work together to expand animal welfare services and advocacy throughout the Coachella Valley.”
